Joining the craze!

It's true, we are jumping on the blog wagon....you will now have unfettered access to more information than you could have possibly ever wanted about the residents of a small grey house with ugly blue trim. And, just like our compatriots in the blogosphere, we are totally convinced that the heretofore unrecorded antics of our daily lives will yield you spellbound - addicts perched on the edge of your seat waiting for the next installment of our wild and wacky adventures which will in all truth be mostly mundane.

You have only narrowly been saved from daily recordings of poopy diapers, potty training trials and adventures in feeding toddlers....but don't let out a sigh of relief just yet - there is a possibility that somewhere down the road we may regale you with riveting material of that genre.

For now though, it's just the two of us. Empty-nesters are we...such an odd thing really. In general, in our culture the term "empty nesters" refers to those nearing (or past) retirement age that have finally ushered the last little birdy from the nest after several years of near self sufficiency. In our case however, we have just been relieved of our parental obligations in the midst of those intense TODDLER years. (It's a really long story and if you want to know more you'll just have to wait for our "Happy New Year" letter to arrive in the mail. And, if you aren't lucky enough to be on our mailing list, well - perhaps we'll be convinced to share some of the details in a later post.)

We have been busy formulating plans for all of this extra time that has suddenly been bestowed on us. And, in the spirit of the New Year and that lovely tradition called "resolutions"....here are a few of the things we have dreamed up to keep us busy:

  • Guitar lessons (Jean)
  • Making wood furniture (Darin)
  • Visit family more often (both of us)
  • Have more company (both of us)
  • Ski adventure with nieces and nephews in February (both of us)
  • Volunteer as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate - Jean)
  • Back to school for Master's Degree in Psychology - first class starts January 8th (Jean)
  • Dog Obedience class (Darin and Watson)
  • Keep a journal (Darin)
  • Join the YMCA with Jean (Darin)
  • Create a web photo album (both of us)
  • Organize boxes of photos (both of us)
  • Take a Pilates class (both of us)
  • Oh yes, and last but certainly not least ... lots of house and yard projects!!

We hardly felt it would be appropriate to start our blogging adventures without sharing a few recent photos. In order to have something to look forward to during the last month of transitioning our kids to their new home we made reservations at Friday Harbor House on San Juan Island (http://www.fridayharborhouse.com/) for Christmas. We had an absolutely lovely time - it's a spot we highly recommend for a romantic or just simply restorative get-a-way.

Here we are - standing on the bluff in front of Friday Harbor House - enjoying the scenery!

We do hereby solemnly swear to post updates to our blog in a somewhat more than totally irregular fashion.
